Miami Marlins – Marlins Kids Stars & Stripes Batting Sleeve
Some MLB teams are handing out a few patriotic SGAs in honor of the 15th anniversary of 9-11 today. The Angels have a flag draped ballcap. While the Marlins have a stars and stripes sleeve for kids in attendance (no pic has been released, but we assume it will look like the one here sported by Giancarlo sometime in the past). Baseball was there for America in the wake of those tragic events some 15 years ago. They are still here, remembering and continuing to honor those who forever had their lives impacted on that day.
Somerset Patriots – John Basilone Bobblehead
Meanwhile, over in the Atlantic Professional Baseball League the Somerset Patriots honor a WWII veteran on their last game of the season. Read below to learn a little bit about John Basilone.
“…to celebrate the 100th birthday of hometown hero John Basilone on Nov. 4, Raritan is hosting a series of events to honor the memory of first enlisted Marine in World War II to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery on Guadalcanal. After being awarded the medal and honored in his hometown and across the nation, Basilone returned to the Pacific and was killed on Iwo Jima.” (Source: www.mycentraljersey.com)
