Atlanta Braves

Sadly the Braves giveaway list is as unimpressive as the team itself this year.  With a very limited number of giveaway days, we didn’t have much to choose from here.  Significant team turnover has the franchise digging into their history books for inspiration as to who they should memorialize this year in bobblehead form.  The list includes Braves greats of days gone by such as John Smoltz, David Justice, and Javy Lopez.  The one standout item, however, has to be their Star Wars special event giveaway.  Star Wars themed giveaways have become all the norm lately.  Atlanta Braves Star Wars Night GIveawayUpwards of a dozen teams are doing their own Star Wars giveaways this season.  But the Braves have a chance here to blow them all out of the water.  If you purchase a Star Wars night special ticket (as low as $25..not a bad deal!) you will be entitled to a limited edition Craig Kimbrel Rebel bobblehead.   The description claims he will be “piloting his own X-wing fighter”.  This sounds like a pretty ambitious and unique bobble concept if we ever heard one.  Initial criticisms of their slate of giveaways this year aside: if we see this Kimbrel bobblehead perched atop a sweet looking X-wing fighter…we will gladly take our harsh words back.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins kicked it up a notch this year with their slate of giveaways. Miami Marlins Stadium Not just the sheer number of items, but the uniqueness quotient is real high for them this season.  You have a Marlins Zombie Kit early in the season.  There is a Giancarlo Stanton growth chart poster (this man is a giant!).  They are even having a special themed wrestling night where kids will get a Wrestling Championship Belt.  Not to mention the now obligatory Star Wars themed night.  Special ticket holders will be getting their very own Billy The Marlin Stormtrooper bobblehead.  None of those awesome items came in at the top of our list for Miami this year though.  That honor goes to their Billy McFly bobblehead that will be distributed to special ticket holders only on the team’s Back To The Future themed night.  Not only is this a high-quality item…but 2015 is a special year for Miami.  Not only does the team look legitimately good this year and are likely to contend for a playoff berth (everyone knows when the Marlins make the playoff…magic happens).  But also because it’s 2015!!! Prophecies have foretold that Miami would be in the World Series this year Even before a “Miami” Marlins team existed! Billy Marlins Back to the Future Bobblehead

And yes the Cubbies defeat Miami as the prophecy tells us.  But since the Cubs and Marlins are both in the NL, there is no way they can play in the World Series.  Which means the good money should be bet based on past precedent.  The Marlins have won 2 World Series in the past 20 years.  The Cubs haven’t won one in 107 years!  So in honor of all this absurdity…Billy McFly had to garner our top pick for the Marlins giveaway of the season.

New York Mets

Ah, the Mets…as a native Philadelphian I don’t care to give them credit for much, but here goes. Mets Jacob deGnome Giveaway The Mets are always big on t-shirt giveaways.  To that fact, they are scheduled to give away more than a dozen this year.  There are some good ones in the bunch, but we didn’t find any too impressive to dub them the best Met SGA of the season.  That honor goes to their Jacob deGrom garden gnome.   Why  they didn’t call it “Jacob deGrome” is beyond me.  They are the NY Mets, so a lack of cleverness shouldn’t surprise me.  In any event, it’s a cool item and deGrom is reigning 2014 National League Rookie of the Year.  So he deserves to be idolized in NY, even if just in garden gnome form.

Philadelphia Phillies

With the Phillies absolutely in the deepest and dirtiest depths of the gutter this season, we turn to the one shining light left at Citizens Bank Park…The Philly Phanatic.  Philadelphia Phillies_Phantic Baseball Socks_4-26-15The Phillies best giveaway for 2015 is a pair of socks (seriously).  Not just any old pair of socks, but Philly Phanatic Birthday Socks.  While the team will no doubt anger and offend the City of Brotherly Love and their fan base all season long; nobody can blame it on the Phanatic.  This guy is out there every night phillies childrens bookdoing his thing.  No mascot in history is as adept at harassing the heck out of the opposition and undulating his hips and beer belly in some sort of creepy and sexually suggestive manner.  If you’ve never seen it live, you’re missing out on the awesome weirdness that is a Phillies fan that is such an insane fanatic that he turned into some sort of giant green monster!  (I don’t know his real origin story or if one even exists…but I have always told myself that’s how he came to be.)  There is a second Phanatic related giveaway this year worth mentioning as well.  A Phanatic children’s book is also pegged to be given out to kids 14 and under on May 29th.

Washington Nationals

The presumptive 2015 World Series front-runners have a starting rotation that is the envy of the rest of MLB.  You’d be correct if you assumed they are giving out bobbleheads of some members from their deadly rotation.  Jordan Zimmerman and Stephen Strasburg both will have their own bobble nights in 2015.  As good as those giveaways and many others are this season for the Nationals, they didn’t make the cut for top honors.  Jayson Werth has been the subject of many a great Nationals (MLB and MILB) giveaways in recent years.  He has been a gnome, a bobble-beard, and even a Werewerth.

Jason Werth Garden Gnome GiveawayJason Werth Bobblehead GiveawayJason Werth Washington Nationals

But this year Jayson is going green (no, this has nothing to do with D.C legalizing marijuana!)  There was little doubt the best item the Nats are handing out this year is their Jayson Werth Chia Beard.  The Nationals might be the odds on favorites to win the World Series this year.  But nobody can ever predict what crazy new way they will capture all the glorious beardness that is Jayson Werth.
