Sacramento Kings – Mike Bibby Bobblehead “The Shot”
When Mike Bibby took the court in the final seconds, he and Chris Webber and 17,317 of their friends were no longer playing with house money, young adults beating the system on a weekend binge. The Sacramento Kings were trailing by a point in the crucible of their season, down to their last shot, facing possible elimination away from home on Friday.
”Maybe everybody else was nervous, but Mike wasn’t,” Kings guard Bobby Jackson said. ”That’s just not him.”
Amid the cold sweats, the churning butterflies in the abdomen and all the other anxiety at Arco Arena tonight, Bibby inbounded the ball near the bench of the Los Angeles Lakers, got it back from Webber and squared up from 22 feet on the right wing.
When the ball went through the net with 8.2 seconds remaining and Kobe Bryant’s shot missed at the other end, the Kings had won the biggest game in Sacramento history, fending off the two-time world champion Lakers, 92-91, in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.
