” Hockey Player, Volunteer Firefighter, Amazing Bobblehead! “
Best Item of the Day
Hersey Bears – Mike Moore Bobblehead
On January 22, 2016, by Chocolate Hockey
Sunday night the Hershey Bears are scheduled to give away a special bobblehead of defenseman Mike Moore. The figurine features Moore in a fireman’s uniform. “It was awesome,” Moore said. “It was really cool. It’s an honor to get a bobblehead. They combined a couple of passions of mine – firefighting and playing hockey. I couldn’t ask for something better. I think they did a great job with it including my hair, so I think it looks good.”
This isn’t the 31-year-old’s first time in a firefighter’s outfit. While at Princeton University, Moore was a volunteer firefighter. “I met a lot of great people, had a lot of fun and some great experiences doing it. I guess there was a vote for firefighter or police officer for hometown hero and the firefighter won so it’s pretty cool.”

“ Double-Bobble-Header! “
Best Item of the Day
Bowling Green State University (Women’s Basketball) – Fran Voll Bobblehead
Bowling Green State University (Men’s Basketball) – Harold Anderson Bobblehead

The BGSU Atheltics Dept. is putting on a special stadium giveaway double-header today! Attend both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Basketball games on campus today and score not one, but 2 great bobbleheads. The lady Falcons are playing Kent State at 2pm and the first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Fran Voll bobblehead. Voll was the Women’s head coach from 1984-1991 and held a win percentage over that span of .706 (144-60). He helped lead the lady Falcons to the NCAA Tournament 4 times, but they never managed to pull off a Championship title.
Hop on over after the Women’s game to the Men’s at 4pm to get your very own Harold Anderson bobblehead. For this giveaway, 500 bobbleheads will be given out at random during the game. So to get both, you need to get to the 1st game early and get lucky at the 2nd game! Anderson coached the Men’s team from 1942-1963. He managed to get his squad to the NCAA Tournament on 3 occasions, but like the ladies team under Frank Voll, was never able to pull off a Championship.
This is a great promotional day put on by the Bowling Green State University Athletics Dept. and we hope some of you make it out to score both of these gems!

“Give Blood, Play Hockey!”
Best Item of the Day
Washington Capitals – Justin Williams Bobblehead
Christmas may be over but the Capitals are offering you the chance to give the gift that keeps giving when they team up with Inova Blood Donor Services for a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington. Appointments are required and blood drive donors will receive a bobblehead of forward Justin Williams as well as a Capitals T-shirt. More than 250 units of blood and blood products are needed every day, year-round, for patients in area hospitals. One blood donation can save up to three lives, and there is a continual need for all blood types.
There is no substitute for human blood. It only comes from volunteer blood donors. It is used to help trauma patients, surgery patients, newborn babies, cancer patients and transplant patients. Donors can make an appointment by calling 1-866-BLOODSAVES (1-866-256-6372) or by signing up online on the Inova Blood Donor Services Website. All donors are asked to arrive at their scheduled appointment time.
To give blood, donors must be feeling generally well on the day of their donation, must be at least 16 years old (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood in the past eight weeks (56 days) for whole blood or 112 days for double red cells. For more information about eligibility requirements call 1-866-BLOODSAVES or visit inova.org/donateblood.
Aspects of each potential donor’s health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, blood pressure and hemoglobin (iron level) are measured.
Inova Blood Donor Services is the major supplier of blood products in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

“The Thaddiator!”
Best Item of the Day
Brooklyn Nets – Thaddeus Young Bobblehead
Thaddeus Young gest his own bobblehead this season. The “Thaddiator” bobblehead of Young dressed up as a gladiator will be given away at tonight’s game against the Celtics. This is the first season that the Nets have given away bobbleheads since they moved to Brooklyn three years ago. Between this one and the Jedi Brook Lopez from earlier this season; they’re putting out some awesome bobbles that we love!
Though Young may not have been quite as excited as Lopez was – frankly, that’s setting the bar too high – he was happy with how it turned out. “They asked me about mine,” he said. “They did the little ‘Thaddiator.’ … I thought it was funny when they first sent me the picture.”
Young wasn’t included in the design process, but he assumed the design came from a Photoshopped Instagram post the team account put up of him back in March, a few weeks after he’d been acquired in trade with the Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett. Young – who joked that he’s a fan of “Gladiator” and “300” – was happy with the outcome.
“They put my head on a gladiator on Instagram, and they kind of just ran with it,” Young said, though the team said it simply came from a common nickname. “My first actual text message I sent back was ‘Laughing out loud.’ [Then] I said, ‘That’s cool. I’m good with that.’”

“The Moose is Loose!”
Best Item of the Day
Manitoba Moose – Connor Hellebuyck Mini Bobblehead
The Manitoba Moose are a Canadian professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba that plays in the American Hockey League (AHL). The team plays its home games at the MTS Centre, the home arena of its parent club, the National Hockey League’s Winnipeg Jets.
The franchise was founded as the Minnesota Moose of the International Hockey League (IHL) in 1994. During their first tenure in Winnipeg (1996–2011), the Manitoba Moose played five seasons in the IHL and ten in the AHL. True North Sports & Entertainment relocated the team to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador in 2011, where they played four seasons as the St. John’s IceCaps. The team returned to Winnipeg as the Manitoba Moose prior to the 2015–16 season. (Source – Wikipedia 2016)

Amateur
After completing his high school career in Michigan, Hellebuyck played one year of junior hockey as a member of the Odessa Jackalopes, a franchise that had been a minor league affiliate of the New York Islanders but had recently moved to junior hockey as part of the North American Hockey League. Hellebuyck went from being virtually unknown to a top prospect while playing in Odessa, and was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets following his season in Odessa.
Hellebuyck earned a scholarship to play for the UMass Lowell River Hawks in the NCAA Men’s Division I Hockey East Conference, where in two seasons he played 54 games and compiled a 38–12–2 record with a .946 save percentage, 1.60 goals against average, and 12 shutouts. He won the Hockey East Championship and made a Frozen Four appearance in his freshman year. Lowell would repeat as Hockey East Champions the following year and Hellebuyck became the only player in Hockey East history to be named tournament MVP twice. Following his second year, Hellebuyck’s outstanding play was rewarded with a selection to the 2013–14 Hockey East First Team.[1]
For the 2013–14 season, Hellebuyck was award the inaugural Mike Richter Award as the top goaltender in college hockey.[2] Hellebuyck departed UMass Lowell as the school’s shutout leader with 12 shutouts in 54 games, surpassing current Nashville Predators and former UMass Lowell goaltender Carter Hutton. He also owns single-season records for best save percentage (.952) and GAA (1.37), both in 2012–13.[3]
Professional
Hellebuyck chose to forgo his final two years of college eligibility when he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL) on April 5, 2014.[4] In the 2014–15 season, he played his first full professional season with the Jets’ American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps and was selected to the 2015 AHL All-Star Game[5] serving as the Eastern Conference starter.[6] Hellebuyck was called up by the Jets late in the regular season to dress as the back-up goalie for one game.[7] On November 22nd, 2015 the Jets called up Hellebuyck, after Ondrej Pavelec was injured during a game against the Arizona Coyotes.[8] On November 27, 2015 Hellebuyck won his first NHL game against the Minnesota Wild, then one month later on December 27th 2015, Hellebuyck recorded his first NHL shutout in a 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Best Item of the Day
Purdue Boilermakers (NCAA Men’s Basketball) – Rick Mount Bobblehead
From: IndyStar – By Nathan Baird – January 1,2016
Purdue coach Matt Painter said he gave his players the “Cliff’s notes” version of what Rick Mount means to the school and basketball program. Even from two hallways away in Mackey Arena on Saturday, the Boilermakers will likely hear how much Purdue’s fans appreciate Mount. The program’s all-time leading scorer, who has been estranged from Purdue basketball for decades, plans to attend festivities honoring him during Saturday’s game against Iowa. The 6 p.m. game, which features a Rick Mount bobblehead giveaway, is nearly sold out. Purdue announced Friday that a limited number of $60 tickets were available at PurdueSports.com.
The Mount appreciation day and bobblehead follows a recent trend for Purdue basketball, which held similar celebrations for Glenn Robinson, Joe Barry Carroll and John Wooden. Mount’s stature, and the end of his long absence, could make Saturday’s celebration unlike any other.
“I think it’s going to be great, not just for Rick but also for our fans and everybody who supports Purdue,” said Painter, who was part of the same 1990 Gene Keady recruiting class as Mount’s son, Rich. “It’s good that it’s the Big Ten opener so he can see how people have appreciated him throughout the years.”
