Chicago Cubs – Joe Maddon OYO Dugout Set

It’s an all Joe Maddon SGA weekend in Chicago!  Last night if you went to the game you scored (hopefully) a nice Joe Maddon Cubs debut dugout bobblehead.  Today you can snag (if you bring kids age 13 and under only!) this quirky little Joe Maddon OYO dugout set.  OYO figures, if you are unaware, have a real lego vibe about them.  We love legos…who doesn’t?  So we also love these OYO giveaway items.  And this one includes a dugout on top of the figure itself of Joe!  Pretty cool set.  There are a bunch of great bobbleheads today.  The Cardinals are even doing a mystery jersey giveaway where you can randomly get a different player jersey from the 1985 NLCS roster.  Great names like Vince Coleman, Jack Clark, Tom Herr, Todd Worrell, and Bob Forsch will be randomly handed out.  You’ve also got the McCutch compression sleeve in Pittsburgh, the etch-a-sketch out in Tampa Bay, and even a garden gnome in Texas.

But all in all…we went with the OYO Maddon dugout set!  It’s very cool; plain and simple!

Ok so this pick for SGA of the day will take a little explanation on our part.  There are after all 13 bobblehead giveaways today.  As well as some other great stuff like the ever popular team cereal bowl and a few replica jerseys.  So here goes…

The SM Blue Crabs are a team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.  It’s a nice little independent baseball league with literally  only a handful of teams.  As such, you can immagine rivalries are strong because you’re playing a lot of the same guys/teams on a regular basis all throughout the season.  Imagine if you’re team were the Washington Nationals and the only other teams they played all season long were other NL East teams.  Rivalries within MLB divisions are already intense enough, add to it a lot more meetings, and you’re getting the picture of how the Atlantic League works.

That being said, this bobblehead from the Blue Crabs today embraces and has more fun with the rivalry aspect of sports than any other we’ve seen.  The Blue Crabs often play the Camden Riversharks and hence, “Stomp the Sharks”.  I mean seriously, they have their manager literally stomping on a shark in this bobblehead.  It’s amazing!  We WISH the MLB had a little more fun and sense of humor to it that would allow Big League teams to pull stunts like this.  Imagine going to a serious in-division rivalry game and the SGA you get was one that mocked your rival team!  As a Phillies fan, I dream of the day we get a Phanatic bobblehead with a “Mets Suck” tshirt on or flag waving in his hand.

Until then, the Atlantic League is where the fun SGAs are at.  Incidentally the Blue Crabs are the only team in the league having fun with their SGAs like this.  But with door mats and fly swatters (and this bobblehead) poking fun at their rivals…we think it’s awesome and original and great for the fans.  Nobody comes out unhappy with these great item.

There may be a handful of quality bobbleheads coming out today that includes a Harry Potter themed mascot, a wall-catch Calhoun, and even a circus Ringmaster.  But we think the beer stein from the Cardinals is the best item of the day.


Budweiser is providing 25,000 fans ages 21 and older a great ceramic beer stein commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the St. Louis Cardinals National League Championship vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1985.

If you’re not already familiar with Stitch ‘n Pitch, it’s a series of events put on by TNNA–The National NeedleArts Association–that encourage all needlecrafters to come on out to Major and Minor League Baseball games for “the perfect double play”. Crafters sit together in dedicated section and spend the game making new friends and often get the chance for special giveaways.

These are special ticketholder only bobbleheads and therefore come in a very limited #.  It’s a looking nice item and it’s for a good cause.  Pony up for the special ticket and get yours today with the Brewers!

There are a few nice bobblehead giveaways today, but we dug this Beloit Snappers Matt Garza the most.  No disrespect to Tulo or Marcus Stroman.  Or mascot bobbles Hornsby and Slider for that matter.  But the Snappers Garza bobble just looks the nicest in our opinion.
